Frequently Asked Questions

  • What exactly does an accountant do?

An accountant is trained in recording and presenting financial information in a way that is helpful to others. They are also well-versed in all operations of business, meaning they can give advice on how to improve processes and help you run your business better than ever.

  • Why hire an accountant?

A great saying goes: “Shortcuts take twice as long.” Although you may be hesitant to hire an accountant, the problems that a poorly kept set of books can cause will have you hiring one down the road anyway. By hiring an accountant sooner rather than later, you save yourself trouble down the line as well as have quality financial information at your fingertips that help you run your business.

  • Can you file my taxes?

The short answer is no. Although I am a CPA and am eligible to help you file your annual income tax returns, I am not providing this service at this time as I focus on supporting business through bookkeeping and consulting. I can, however, assist in payroll tax and IRS Form 1099 filings.

  • What is bookkeeping?

Bookkeeping is the recording and maintenance of financial information for a business. This can involve services such as recording bank transactions, preparing invoices, and paying the business’ bills. Any event that has a financial impact on the business or could be considered a “transaction” will likely cross a bookkeeper’s desk.

  • What do all these bookkeeping terms mean?

They are descriptors for different major activities businesses engage in. Bank reconciliations involves monitoring of bank activity and cash accounts to ensure all cash activity is properly recorded. Accounts payable and receivable relate to paying bills and receiving payments, respectively. General ledger accounting deals with non-routine and other periodic transactions in a business, such as month-end or year-end activities.

  • How are our QuickBooks services different from bookkeeping?

Running your own books could make the most sense for your business. Regardless of this, if you are switching your records over to QuickBooks, or if your existing QuickBooks get out of hand, a one-time project to get your books ready could be all you need. Afterward, you will be all set to take the reigns again.

  • What is so complex about payroll?

The complexity of payroll really depends on a variety of factors: what state your employees work in, how many employees you have, how often you pay them, and on what basis you pay them (salary, hourly, commission, etc.), just to name a few. Depending on the complexity of your payroll it could be in need of special attention.

  • Can payroll services really be separate from bookkeeping?

Yes! Payroll processes are usually easy to separate from the recordkeeping for the business. If your business is simple, but has many employees, it is possible you only need support with your payroll. If that’s the case, our payroll services could be just what you need.

  • How can analytics help me?

Analytics is a growing field in business which helps people find the hidden truths in data. It can do anything from showing you seasonalities of your business, the profitability of your products or services, or the demographics to target among your customers or clients.
